Thirst

Dimensions variable on 12" x 12" x 37" pedestals, 2010
Air dry pottery clay

In many ways this short cycle of minimalist sculptures is a complement and an antithesis to the "Eros and Geometry" series. The work takes a single-purpose utilitarian object – the cup – and makes it a totem of impossibility of desire's fulfillment, of frustration and failure.

The functional breakdown and impracticality of physical size underscore the resulting melancholy. For the Erotic impulse is palpably absent, or even forcibly exiled, in these monochromatic and desolate forms.
